In Washington, LanzaTech took the #1 spot in the 2017 “50 Hottest Companies in the Advancd Bioeconomy” rankings, published today in The Digest, the world’s most widely-read bioeconomy daily. It was second year at the top for LanzaTech, which also ranked #1 two years ago.
Amyris (#2), Renewable Energy Group (#3), Novozymes (#4), Avantium (#5), BioAmber (#6), Genomatica (#7), DSM (#8), Neste (#9) and Gevo (#10) rounded out the top 10.

The annual rankings, which recognize innovation and achievement in fuels and integrated biorefinery development, are based on votes from an invited panel of distinguished international selectors and subscribers of The Digest.
“This year, the voters went global in picking companies founded in New Zealand, the US, Denmark, the Netherlands, France and Finland in the top 10,” said Digest editor and publisher Jim Lane. “And of the four US companies in the top 10, three are operating plants in other countries.”
“A new wave of companies has arrived in the Hot 50 this year using synthetic biology in amazing ways — companies like Ginkgo, Bolt Threads and Impossible Foods.,” noted Lane. “Also, the selectors continue to focus on companies that are reaching scale or deploying second and third commercial-scale facilities.”
“This is such a thrill!!” said Jennifer Holmgren, CEO of LanzaTech. “The Digest rankings remain one of the most cited ranking sets for any industry and we are honored to be listed alongside such great companies in this year’s Hot 50. It is an honor to be recognized by the digest subscribers and the international panelists for our contributions to the advanced bioeconomy. Reducing carbon emissions is the challenge of our lifetime and the LanzaTech team is working with friends across the world and multiple sectors to make carbon recycling a reality.”
